Sub Club MD Mike Grieve will lead a new commission focused on protecting and advancing Glasgow's vital nightlife economy.
Mike Grieve, the long-standing managing director of Glasgow's iconic Sub Club, has been tapped to chair a new City Centre Task Force. Working with the Scottish Night Time Industries Association (SNTIA), Grieve effectively steps into the role of Glasgow Night Czar to bridge the gap between operators and local government.
The commission’s mandate is clear: support local venues, advocate for the nightlife sector, and influence city policy. Grieve is joined by industry heavyweights including Fiona Ellis (DF Concerts) and Katie Duffy (Glasgow Life), alongside representatives from the Music Venues Trust.
Glasgow City Council is backing the initiative with a dedicated budget, including the creation of a full-time Night-Time Economy officer. The move follows recent data showing Glasgow and Edinburgh outperforming London in nightlife activity.
Grieve noted that initial efforts are already impacting transport initiatives and strategy development. For a city defined by its cultural output, a permanent seat at the legislative table is a long-overdue win for the hospitality and arts sectors.
