Spotify Pivots to Video with Festival Livestream Integration

Spotify is negotiating with major promoters to bring live festival video to the app, part of a broader push to monetize super fans beyond standard music licensing.

Spotify is moving into the live video space. Per reports from Bloomberg, the streaming giant has approached several festival and music promoters to integrate high-definition broadcasts directly into its platform. This follows previous live audio experiments and a recent test run featuring Dua Lipa in Mexico City. The shift is practical. By hosting livestreams, Spotify reduces its reliance on the margins of music licensing while doubling down on its 'super fan' strategy. This aligns with the platform's recently launched 'Reserved' program, which allows premium users to secure concert tickets through a multi-year deal with Live Nation. Charlie Hellman, Spotify’s Head of Music, confirmed the rollout window, noting that the Live Nation agreement positions Spotify as a primary digital gateway for live event perks. For the electronic community, this could mean more access to global festival stages, provided the platform can fix its traditional disconnect between streaming and the live experience.
