SoundCloud Absorbs Nina Protocol to Preserve Independent Infrastructure

SoundCloud acquires the independent storefront platform after its recent sunset, migrating Nina's artist suite and editorial archives into its creator ecosystem.

SoundCloud has finalized the acquisition of Nina Protocol, effectively rescuing the platform’s tools and archives following its elective closure in May. The deal integrates Nina’s artist-first storefront model into the SoundCloud ecosystem, providing a lifeline for the independent community Nina spent five years culturing. Artists previously on Nina can now migrate their tracks and followers to SoundCloud, with a five-month trial of the Artist Pro tier offered as a bridge. This ensures the digital storefronts and fan-monetization tools central to Nina's mission remain functional under new management. Beyond technical assets, the acquisition includes Nina’s editorial archive and genre maps. By securing this cultural documentation, SoundCloud preserves a significant record of underground music history and independent journalism that would have otherwise gone offline. The move aligns with SoundCloud’s recent push toward direct fan-to-artist engagement. While Nina’s original stack was built on decentralized values, this integration represents a pragmatic landing for a platform that found no viable path forward as a standalone entity.
