A Russian court has handed down years-long prison sentences to the team behind Orenburg's Pose nightclub, citing participation in an "extremist" movement.
The Central District Court of Orenburg has sentenced Pose nightclub owner Vyacheslav Khasanov to seven years in prison. The club’s manager and art director received six and two-year sentences respectively. The charges stem from a 2024 raid on the venue, which investigators linked to the non-existent "international LGBT movement" currently labeled as extremist by the Russian state.
Reports indicate the March 2024 raid involved local police and the National Guard, alongside ultra-conservative groups who filmed performers being interrogated. Witnesses described the use of stun guns and physical violence against staff and attendees during the operation. All three defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
This ruling follows a similar case in Eastern Siberia, where club owner Tatiana Zorina saw her sentence increased to over six years. Prosecutors in that case targeted costumes—including corsets and false breasts—as evidence of criminal activity.
