Russian Authorities Intercept Feline Drug Courier at Penal Colony

A cat rigged with a makeshift narcotic-filled collar was intercepted by police outside Nizhny Novgorod. The feline was detained and cleared by a cynologist following a failed smuggling run.

Law enforcement in Nizhny Novgorod have disrupted an unconventional supply line into Correctional Colony No. 17. A cat was detained on-site after being fitted with two fabric collars containing unconfirmed illicit substances. Prison staff and sniffer dogs intercepted the animal before it could reach the interior. According to the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service, the narcotics were confiscated and the feline underwent a health check before being released. This incident follows a growing trend of utilizing animals for prison contraband, mirroring a 2023 case in British Columbia where a pigeon was caught carrying a backpack of crystal meth. Authorities have not yet identified the handlers behind the Russian operation.
