The NTIA has issued an open letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy, demanding a shift in how electronic music venues are valued. The move seeks to reclassify nightclubs from 'entertainment venues' to 'cultural institutions,' affording them the same protections as theaters and museums.
This demand follows a similar legislative victory in Germany, where clubs were recently granted cultural status. The NTIA argues that without this recognition, the UK's legacy of house, jungle, and techno will continue to erode as venues face redevelopment and financial collapse.
Beyond branding, the association is pushing for a national strategy for electronic music and stronger planning laws. Protecting these spaces is about more than just business; it is about preserving the environments that have defined global youth culture for decades.
