Mickey Mann, a pivotal figure in the technical evolution of UK electronic music, has died at 64. A Scottish engineer and producer, Mann was the hidden hand behind the sonics of Orbital, Basement Jaxx, and Aphex Twin. His career took off in 1985 through a chance meeting with The Shamen in Aberdeen. Mann eventually transitioned from managing the duo to becoming a sought-after sound engineer, working with Moby, System 7, and Megadog during the formative years of the rave movement. Beyond the soundboard, Mann led the industrial-electronic project Pressure of Speech and was instrumental in bridging the gap between underground experimentation and global stages.
