King Gizzard Pivot to Modular Synthesis with 'Alien Metal' and NYC Rave Dates

The Australian psych outfit trades guitars for a giant Eurorack rig named 'Nathan' for their upcoming LP and a string of high-capacity New York shows.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are leaning further into hardware for their upcoming LP, 'Alien Metal'. Eschewing traditional rock structures, the six-piece recorded the project through a massive shared Eurorack modular system. Lead single 'Level 5' offers the first look at their pivot toward structural tension and release.
Frontman Stu Mackenzie credits the shift to bandmate Joe Walker, whose background in electronic production anchored the sessions. The process involved a total deconstruction of their songwriting, prioritizing technical signal flow and subtractive mixing over the band’s usual maximalist psych-rock tendencies.
The group heads to New York this August for a residency that includes a dedicated 'rave show' at Forest Hills Stadium on the 21st. The bill features support from Moktar and Vril, signaling a move into the city’s established electronic circuits.
