London-based producer HAAi strips back Nina Simone's 1966 classic 'That’s All I Ask' for the latest entry in the Verve Remixed series.
Verve Records continues its 70th-anniversary celebrations by handing the keys to its archive back to the dance floor. Following recent reworks from Mochakk and DESIREE, HAAi steps in to tackle Nina Simone’s 'That’s All I Ask', originally featured on the 1966 LP 'Broadway-Blues-Ballads'.
HAAi’s approach is one of restraint. Rather than burying the source material under heavy production, she anchors the arrangement around the original vocal, using negative space to let Simone's delivery carry the emotional weight.
The remix arrives as HAAi maintains momentum following her sophomore album 'HUMANiSE' and its subsequent remix package. This latest effort reinforces the endurance of Simone’s catalog within modern electronic music contexts.
