New Zealanders are prioritising the booth over the boardroom. Data from a recent Remitly study shows that 'how to be a DJ' is the most searched career transition in the country, beating out traditional paths like medicine, law, and executive leadership.
The trend isn't isolated to the Aotearoa region. Globally, the desire to DJ has surged, jumping from 24th to 10th place in worldwide rankings over the last two years. Within the arts sector, it trails only acting as the most-coveted creative pursuit.
Technical production is also seeing a rise in interest, ranking 15th in New Zealand. While the 'dream job' search reflects high cultural capital, the jump in global interest—nearly 98,000 searches—suggests a significant shift in how people view professional viability in the electronic music space.
