Cercle has canceled its November festival in San José del Cabo, Mexico, citing the platform's precarious financial health. Founder Derek Barbolla announced that the 10-year-old Paris-based company is currently in danger.
Post-pandemic inflation, rising taxes, and thinning margins have made the current festival model unsustainable. Barbolla stated the event could not be executed under its original design while maintaining the brand's standards. Refunds for ticket holders are being processed.
In a first for the platform, Cercle is requesting direct community support. A newly launched donation page offers tiered incentives—ranging from video credits to signed vinyl—to help stabilize the company's future operations.
The existing library of livestreamed performances will remain accessible for free on YouTube. The move highlights the broader economic volatility currently squeezing even the most established independent players in the electronic music space.
