Bristol’s pivotal contribution to jungle isn't just about the records. A new exhibition at the Royal West of England Academy (RWA), curated by Krust and DJ Flynn, aims to provide a granular look at the city's 30-year history with the genre.
The show, titled 'This Is Jungle Takeover,' moves past standard nostalgia. By utilizing rave flyers, vintage photography, and personal archives, the curators highlight the ecosystem of label owners, pirate radio operators, and photographers who stabilized the scene’s foundations in the South West.
Krust notes the project serves as a framework for the future rather than just a backward glance. The exhibition documents how Bristol transformed an underground frequency into a global cultural shift, offering a blueprint for subsequent generations.
The installation runs at the RWA until June 28. Programming includes 'Listening Lab' sessions featuring pioneers like DJ Dazee and Dr Meaker, focusing on the dubplates and technical shifts that defined the Bristol sound.
