Berlin Legalizes Spontaneous Open-Airs at Gleisdreieck Park

Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg officials have approved a new digital registration system for free, legal outdoor music events near Yorckstraße.

Berlin's Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district assembly has passed a motion to establish a dedicated, legal space for free-to-attend open-air events at Gleisdreieck Park. Orchestrated by Die Linke and backed by the Berlin Clubcommission, the move provides a legitimate framework for spontaneous cultural gatherings. The designated area near the skatepark and Yorckstraße station is already equipped with necessary infrastructure, including restrooms, water fountains, and gated exits. Organizers can register events via a digital system 24 to 72 hours in advance, with music permitted until 10:00 PM daily. While the motion is a win for the city's electronic music culture, official test events are still pending. District authorities must first complete assessments on noise mitigation, crowd capacity, and environmental protection before the space becomes fully operational. This initiative follows the Clubcommission’s 'Free Open Air Berlin' project, which seeks to replicate successful legal outdoor frameworks already established in German cities like Leipzig and Bremen.
